The Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain 2016 season is upon us. In what is set to be the most hotly contested season to date, Porsche Centre Guildford is delighted to announce the sponsorship of new Porsche Carrera Cup GB Scholar, Charlie Eastwood.
The former world karting champion and Formula Renault Eurocup racer from Belfast became the 2016/2017 Porsche Carrera Cup GB Scholar after overcoming tough competition from a shortlist of young talented drivers. The shortlisted drivers were put through a challenging assessment day of high intensity fitness tests, world-class media training and driving assessments in a Porsche 911 (Type 991) GT3 Cup at The Porsche Experience Centre and on the Silverstone National circuit.
Charlie Eastwood will now compete in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB 2016 championship. The 20-year-old said “It really is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that could make such a huge difference to me in the future. There are not many drivers who can claim to have the most successful sports car racing marque behind them.”
The championship has proved itself as a springboard for drivers seeking a career as a professional sports and GT racer. Director of Porsche Retail Group, Ade Smith said “We have a rich heritage of backing the Scholar in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB and we are thrilled to be supporting Charlie this year. His evident enthusiasm and passion for motorsport combined with his natural driving ability gives him all the right attributes to build a successful career as a racing driver.”
Broadcast on ITV4 and attracting crowds of approximately 370,000, the Porsche Carrera Cup GB is more popular than ever and is emerging as a firm fixture in the motorsport enthusiast’s diary. Set to be the biggest and most competitive Carrera Cup yet, the championship will be the key support race to the BTCC across numerous rounds. A real highlight for 2016 will be rounds 3&4 where the championship will support the World Endurance Championship at Silverstone.
The Porsche Carrera Cup GB will feature the 460hp Porsche 911 (Type 991) GT3 Cup and the most iconic racing circuits in the UK, see below for the confirmed 2016 racing calendar.
