Porsche Carrera Cup GB arrived at Silverstone for the penultimate weekend of the season on the Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 September. Two exciting races on the shorter National Circuit saw Porsche Centre Guildford sponsored driver Adam Smalley crowned champion for the 2023 with two races still left to go.
Race one was conducted in damp conditions with some drivers opting for grooved wet weather tyres for extra grip, others like Smalley – on slicks – lost 12 places in the early stages. However, in drying conditions Smalley set a succession of fastest laps in a bid for outright victory. It was a close battle all the way to the line with Smalley settling for second place, entering the weekends final race needing to outscore his title rival by three points to be crowned provisional champion.
Dry conditions along with a handful of penalties received by the title rival allowed Smalley to drive in a comfortable position to secure his position as provisional 2023 Pro category champion finishing race two in fourth place.
The final weekend of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB season takes place at Brands Hatch on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 October. Congratulations Adam.
